  • At Rumba we are a ‘much more than a sporting club’. As our motto implies we run a range of community development initiatives across Aboriginal cultural identity, expression and celebration; leadership; health; education; employment; and social inclusion (reconciliation).
  • The Academy of Sport Health and Education (ASHE)
    ASHE uses participation in sport to reengage primarily Indiginous youth (16 to 24) in a trusted, culturally appropriate educational environment to create employment pathways.

    Program partners:
    The University of Melbourne and Goulburn Ovens TAFE.

  • Munarra Youth Futures
    The RFNC established Munarra Youth Futures in 2008 to engage kids’ passion for sport to nurture their success at school and in life. The initiative will see RFNC juniors experience a range of sport, cultural, artistic, educational, and adventure activities.

    Program partners:
    AFL, Netball Australia, Australian Government Department of Families and Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs, Victorian Government Department of Education and Early Childhood Development and the philanthropic sector.

  • Munarra Leadership program
    The Munarra Leadership program is focused on growing current and next generation leaders. The program supports 15 people annually on a personal and professional leadership journey that culminates in an international leadership exchange to New Zealand each November.

    Program partners:
    The Melbourne Business School, the Essendon Football Club and the Victorian Government Department of Planning and Community Development, Aboriginal Affairs Victoria.

  • Munarra Healthy Lifestyles
    The Munarra Healthy Lifestyles program is a foundation stone of the Club. The progam focuses on preventative health across diet, nutrition and exercise, anti-drug and alcohol and encourages regular attention to physical and mental health.

    Program partners:
    The Rumbalara and Njernda Aboriginal Health Cooperatives, Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing, Victorian Government Department of Human Services, Vic Health and the International Diabetes Institute.

  • Rumba Ripples employment initiative
    Rumbalara Ripples addresses unemployment and underemployment challenges within the Club and community, particularly long-term unemployed. It targets private sector opportunities and provides the required pre and post employment support to employers and employees.

    Rumbalara Ripples also coordinates the higher expectations Barpirdhila program that provides exceptional development opportunities to identified Indigineous youth.

    Program partners:
    Victorian Government Department of Industry, Innovation and Regional Development, RAD.com, Njernda Aboriginal Health Cooperative, Indigenous Enterprise Partnerships, The Bill Hutchison Foundation and the Business Council of Australia.
