Academy for Sport Health and Education

          Munarra Youth Futures
Healthy Lifestyles Program
The ‘Healthy Lifestyles Program’ works with players, members and families of the Club to build a holistic and multi-faceted program that promotes cultural strength, health and reconciliation. Sport is used as a vehicle to convey health messages. Strategies have been developed in response to the needs of specific groups, changing as different or new needs emerged in the community. The range of Healthy Lifestyles Program activities has included Diet and nutrition, Personal development, Men’s health program, Koori womens health,  Youth issues, Elders exercise, Substance misuse, etc.

Munarra Leadership Program
This program aims to build the capacity of the leadership team to ensure they are equipped with the appropriate skills and knowledge to act as effective role models to lead and support young people both within the club and in the mainstream community. The program comprises mentor training, mentor and mentee interaction and community development programs.
The program’s core aim is to equip young members of the community with the necessary skills to take ownership of their lives. The participants are then encouraged to extend these skills to the group environment. Finally, the program considers how participants can apply their skills to the community as a whole.
Over the last year the program worked with the players on group projects such as developing the Club's Core Values and the Codes of Conduct as well as on individual capacity building. The Leadership Program has resulted in 87% of participants being in full-time education or employment. This compares favourably in a community where Koori unemployment is estimated to be 80%.
Future leadership programs aim to develop exchanges with young people from non-Indigenous communities and will collaborate with other Shepparton programs to encourage meaningful interaction with young people from other backgrounds.

Academy of Sport, Health and Education
The University of Melbourne has partnered with Rumbalara to develop the Academy of Sport, Health and Education (ASHE) in Shepparton.  ASHE delivers a new approach to education and training for Indigenous people – one that provides relevant courses, a trusted, culturally appropriate environment, and genuine employment and further education outcomes.
The central concept underpinning ASHE is that the commitment to sport and sporting achievement of the Indigenous community, and the sense of ownership and pride in RFNC, will be the catalyst for involving people in study. While sport is at the core of a curriculum, courses are offered in health and education that will lead to learning outcomes of direct value in obtaining employment.
Certificates in Sport (II, III, IV) are offered, and conducted with the Goulburn Ovens TAFE.  These are modular, and connected, providing opportunities and incentives for individuals to build credits towards certification at higher levels with flexibility of entry and exit points.  There are currently over 50 students enrolled on a full or part time basis.
